Eating
like a bird…
You’ve heard that comment. “She
eats like a bird.” Don’t know
if it’s a compliment or a criticism, since it has never been said about me.
There are birds outside my window this morning.
The house finches are jumping in and out of the small feeders.
Peeking over the side rails. Then
quickly grabbing seeds. Up, down.
Then flitting up to the dead tree branch.
They share the food with sparrows and chickadees.
The goldfinches hang on the thistle sacs.
Sometimes ten or twelve per bag. Grab
a few seeds, then up to the tree branch. Back
and forth.
The quail come in their fast walking rows to the chickewn scratch on the
ground. One sits on the fence as a
look out. Even with this look-out
the don’t keep their head down for long.
Kick the ground, look down,
grab some food, then look up. It’s
fascinating to watch. They are
messy and eat a lot of seed. But it
is well worth the cost and the bother. They
are right outside our window and easy to watch.
Each specie eats differently. Some
eat only one kind others will eat a variety.
Some hop, some scratch, some
hang. They all seem to be in a
hurry and constantly look around for danger.
All programmed by God. S’T
I’m glad I don’t eat like a bird.
They have to always be on the alert for predators.
Don’t
see many fat birds however. |
